Special Dimensions has been specifically designed for use in special school settings. The Special Dimensions Toolkit consists of Design Modules, Learning Links, Dimensions Curriculum Model and Theme Map Resources. Having been successfully trialled in several different schools, catering for a wide range of needs including ASD, PMLD and SLD pupils, Special Dimensions aims to give a clear structure for schools looking to provide pupils with a more creative, engaging learning experience.
Case Study - Astley Park Special School, Chorley
Astley Park is a special school for children aged 4 - 16 with a wide range of learning needs, including moderate to severe difficulties, ASD and speech language and communication needs. The school is situated in Chorley but has pupils from a wide catchment area throughout South and West Lancashire. Of the 120 learners currently on roll over half are eligible for FSM. The majority of pupils are White British with approximately 4% other ethnic groups.
"Working with Elaine and using the Dimensions Toolkit has allowed us to look at our curriculum with a fresh pair of eyes. We are now putting fun and creativity at the centre of everything we do. We are using the materials to create a curriculum which is personalised to our setting and the needs of our learners.
The materials are an excellent support and scaffolding tool, which enable you to really look at the curriculum you want for your school. They are well-presented and saved me hours of work gathering all the information together. I would not hesitate to recommend Special Dimensions to other special schools."
